NVQ/QCF DIPLOMA IN HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE LEVEL 2

From 1st January 2011 all vocational and work related qualifications changed. The essential tool in this reform of vocational qualifications is Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF)  
The new qualifications are Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care, Level 3 diploma in Health & Social care and Level 5 Diploma in Health & Social Care.

QCF level 2 in Health & Social Care is aimed at those staff who deliver personal care that supports or enables clients in health or social care in the private, public or voluntary sector. You will be able to increase your knowledge and awareness,  gain a better understanding of your client's needs, Begin a life long learning in Health & Social Care and Gain a nationally recognised certificate which indicates your competence.

The QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 is a nationally recognised qualification based on the Health and Social Care National Occupation Standards approved by Skills for Care & Development. The award will confirm knowledge, skills and competence for individuals working with adults and children across all social care settings. What is the purpose of these qualifications?

The qualifications aim to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to the health and social care workforce. These qualifications confirm competence in areas of health and social care where appropriate.

The Edexcel Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF) serves as the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements in the social care sector in England. Learners must take nine mandatory units. They then have a choice of optional knowledge and competence units covering different areas of health and social care such as supporting person-centred approaches, advocacy, healthcare, supporting those with disabilities, learning disabilities or dementia. Learners have the opportunity to take a general qualification in health and social care, or they may follow specialist pathways in Dementia Care or Learning Disabilities.

Course structure

Each unit within the Diploma has a credit rating and to achieve the QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 learners must complete 9 mandatory units along with a choice of 9 optional knowledge and competence units equalling an overall 46 credits.

Mandatory Units
•    Unit 1- Introduction to Communication in Health & Social Care Settings
•    Unit 2- Introduction to Personal Development in Health & Social Care Settings
•    Unit 3- Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health & Social Care Settings
•    Unit 4- Introduction to Duty of Care in Health & Social Care Settings
•    Unit 5- Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health & Social Care Settings
•    Unit 6- The Role of the Health & Social Care Worker
•    Unit 7- Implement Person-Centred Approaches in Health & Social Care Settings
•    Unit 8- Contribute to Health & Safety in Health & Social Care
•    Unit 9- Handle Information in Health & Social Care Settings

The optional knowledge and competence units deals with different aspects of health and social care such as supporting those with physical disabilities, learning disabilities or dementia, individuals working with children and young people, infection control and supported living. Learners have the opportunities to take a general qualification in health and social care, or they may follow a specialist pathway in areas such as Dementia or Learning Disabilities.


Assessment:

Assessment takes place through evaluation of work-based performance, presenting evidence, witness testimony and questioning. A portfolio of evidence is produced which demonstrates that the candidate can perform to the level described. The overall grade for each qualification is a pass. The learner must achieve all the required units within the specified qualification structure.

Assesssor will assist candidate in preparing and structuring their portfolio. Candidates will also have support through other resources provided.

The course is open to all candidates.


Course duration
The duration for the course is 6 months


Progression
On succesful completion of this program candidates can progress to work within the Health and Social Care sector including the NHS and may also progress to study for the QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3.
