INTRODUCTION TO CARE

FOUNDATION IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE
     
Foundation in Health and Social Care is designed for entry level candidates in the provision of health and social care.
This course enables you the required knowledge and skills to work in a Care environment. The course is a 1 week intensive training.

The course covers the following Core modules:

1.    Skills for Care; this module comprises of:
•    Person’s centre approach in delivering care
•    Procedures for work in health and social care environment
•    Provision of personal, practical and social care to the individuals
•    Health and Safety at work
•    Basic Life support
•    Managing incontinent, social and economic problems of client group
•    Communication skills with individuals/people with learning disabilities
•    Record keeping, service monitoring and working with the elderly & other clients.
•    Monitoring vital signs, Blood pressure, Pulse, Blood sugar, Body temperature
•    RIDDOR, COSHH, POVA, SOVA, POCA e.t.c.
•    Confidentiality of the client information

2.    Mandatory Health and Safety training in relation to Care:

•    Health and Safety (COSHH & RIDDOR)
•    Fire training / Fire safety
•    Moving and Handling
•    Basic First Aid
•    SOVA – Safeguarding of vulnerable adult

3.    Mental Health Pathway; this comprises of the following:

•    Mental health care
•    Care of the elderly
•    Disabilities / Profound disabilities
•    Epilepsy care / managing severe cases
•    Personal disorders care
•    Challenging behaviours / Aggressive behaviours
•    Drugs and Alcohol abuse care
•    Dementia Stroke care
•    Terminal illnesses management and care
•    Visual impairment / Blind care

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT IN:

•    Risk assessment
•    Understanding and Management of common mental disorders
•    Dementia, personality disorders and elderly mental infirm
•    Stress and distress, Eating and apetite
•    Major mental health problems
•    Mind and body – the emotions and physical illness
